Ashley served on Active Duty in the United States Army from 2003 to 2010, and she speaks without hesitation about the impact of that decision. Serving in the military, she says, saved her life. Before enlisting, she felt she was headed in the wrong direction. The structure, discipline, and purpose of military life redirected her path and ultimately shaped the career she holds today. She is proud to have served and honored to continue her work in support of Veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
One of the most pivotal moments of her early military career came during a formative conversation with a squad leader. At a time when she struggled with punctuality and meeting standards, she was asked a simple but powerful question: “What kind of Soldier do you want to be?” That question changed everything. It reframed her perspective from compliance to commitment. From that point forward, she did not aim simply to meet expectations — she aimed to exceed them.
For Ashley, service means putting others before yourself and serving the greater good. It is an active, intentional choice to contribute beyond personal gain. Throughout her journey, she found support by reaching out to peers and those willing to stand beside her.
Her message to others is grounded in steadiness and resilience: take everything one day at a time. Progress does not always require dramatic change; sometimes it requires daily commitment.
Her advocacy remains unwavering. She continues to fight for her fellow Veterans to feel supported, reflecting a belief that service does not end with separation from the military — it evolves into sustained commitment to community.
